What is OCT? (Optical Coherence Tomography)

OCT stands for Optical Coherence Tomography and is a complex technology used to measure the eye and particularly the layers of the retina. The retina is the light-sensitive area at the back of the eye, equivalent to the film in a camera or a sensor in a digital camera.

An OCT scan is similar to an MRI or CAT scan for your eyes. OCT technology can image in 3D allowing us to see, sometimes for the first time, problems within your eye that could not easily be seen before.

Advances in technology over the last 15 years have transformed eyecare, with an OCT now common within most hospitals. However, only the most advanced Optometric Practices offer this technology. We at Silver & Rose, have chosen to invest in Zeiss OCT Technology in order to ensure that your eyesight can be thoroughly monitored, both now and in the future. Building a photographic ocular history for direct comparative analysis on each successive visit for our own patients.

An OCT scan is not performed as part of an NHS Eye Test but as part of an optional Enhanced Eye Examination. An Enhanced Eye Examination measures not only your sight but a more in-depth investigation of the health of your eyes.

Please ask our team at Silver & Rose for more details.
